Today, I love the Internet…

What a tangled web!

for reminding me to strive more

Posted by tiltiblog on October 24, 2008

So…the world of disgusting cupcakery is much more robust than I previously suspected.  The eyeball thing was plenty for me.  But then I saw this:

blechhhhh

blechhhhh

Oh and these:

i heartz u, jelly center!

i heartz u, jelly center!

These:

And also, these:

is that a tongue??

is that a tongue??

WOW:

Boogety boo!

Boogety boo!

I can say no words in my current hungry state to give sufficient props to this effort.

What can scary cupcakes do for you?

But please stay where you are.

Posted by tiltiblog on October 23, 2008

OKAY people.  I must preface the meat of this post by saying there has been social spoofery aplenty about what the ‘real world’ would be like if it mimicked the Internet.  This being my favorite.

[Oh yeah, there's at least a little NSFW on all links today!  Unless you're the Boss, beware!]

So there I was, drifting merrily along on my floaty raft of delusion that the Real World and the Internet were separated by at least the occasional firewall.  Until yesterday, when I saw this:

I’m a little afraid now.

Because this vid gives some pretty hilarious tributes to the lolcat (plus features terms like ‘meh’ and ‘donkey-f**ker’) I shall end here.

I fought the LOL and the LOL won.

for obsoleting my TV. Thank you!

Posted by tiltiblog on October 18, 2008

I won’t name any names but there are several brave and hard-working souls out there who are making it possible for me to watch TV online. And just to be clear: I am certainly NOT talking about the employees of cbs.com. The network video players are pretty much crap (I find abc.com’s is ok, especially when the player skips over the between-segment ads it’s supposed to force you to watch. Yay! Don’t change a thing).

The last thing I will feel like doing come February of ’09 is shopping for coax cable. Oh and Internet? I also appreciate you for reminding me how much I love old people (pretty much in inverse proportion to my love of young folks). Thank god my dear maternal grandmother passed before analog TV did! She would have just put the set in the basement, for all eternity. And my other Gramma can use the Interwebs, so she’ll be able to fend. (She’s still on AOL for god knows what reason but we must pick our battles, nay?)

Anyhoosit, sit back, wuh wuh watch and enjoy this demo of Bubbie hookin’ up the signal converter.

Thanks to Mr. Military Time, I can now enjoy a webcomic devoted to classic Internet themes.

Today, I love Blog Action Day!

Posted by tiltiblog on October 15, 2008

Today is the unfortunately acronymable Blog Action Day 2008, everyone!

If you haven’t heard about this experiment, its mission is (if I may quote and there’s no one here to stop me): “Today thousands of bloggers will unite to discuss a single issue – poverty. We aim to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web!” I wonder how many feathers will get ruffled (or tailfeathers shook) in the blogosphere today? Naysayers don’t think we can change anything via writing our musings, fellow bloggers, but I hope They are wrong. I hope the proverbial butterfly effect means that everything we do has an impact on something somewhere…but then again, I believe in Little People. Take what I say with some sea salt.

Moving along, today’s Blog Action Day subject is poverty. The first thing that came to my mind when I considered this subject was that access to resources is true wealth, particularly the basics: water, food and shelter. I’m lucky enough to have regular access to all three (at least for now, praise Dow!) but I try not to take them for granted and to share what I have when I can.

Along these lines, tilti wants to promote the following concepts. And I invite you (yes you) to read up on these issues. You know you want to spend at least 15 minutes not working today. So click through!

1. Get a metal water bottle or a glass jar and drink your frigging tap water!

2. Please help reduce food waste. Tilti HATES food waste almost as much as Tilti loves food (and the Internet). That is a lot a lot. Go to wastedfood.com and learn how you can help.

3. Do you need a space wasting McMansion? No, you do not. You need a tiny house.

Peace out, b-sphere.
